National/International Events and Commemorations
Independence Day - July 4 
Independence Day commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. The
                        day marks the historical event when the United States of America declared its independence
                        from the rule of Great Britain. The declaration was adopted on July 4, 1776 therefore
                        the holiday is commonly referred to as the Fourth of July or July Fourth.
World Day for International Justice - July 17
Every year on July 17, World Day for International Justice is observed all around
                        the world. The aim of the day is to promote international criminal justice and as
                        a way of supporting the work of the International Criminal Court. This day aims to unite everyone who wants to support justice as well as promote victims
                           rights. It is to help prevent serious crimes and those that put the peace, security
                           and well-being of the world at risk.
Black Leaders Awareness Day - July 18
Black Leaders Awareness Day is an opportunity to introduce black leaders to the world
                           with quotes from upcoming and current leaders. Black Leaders Awareness Day will ensure
                           individuals, companies, educational institutions, government and not for profits (NGOs
                           and charities) can share the knowledge experience and quotes from people who demonstrate
                           that they bring others together for the greater good of society.
International Day of Friendship - July 30
World Friendship Day, also known as International Day of Friendship takes place on
                        30th July. The first World Friendship Day was proposed for 30 July 1958 by the World
                        Friendship Crusade, an international civil organization that campaigns to foster a
                        culture of peace through friendship. Many years later, in 2011, the 30th July was
                        declared as the International Day of Friendship by the General Assembly of United
                        Nations. With the growing popularity of social media throughout the world, there has
                        been an increase in celebrating World Friendship day and International Day of Friendship
                        online as well as with community activities in local communities aimed at bringing
                        those of different backgrounds together.
System Office events and celebrations
Fourth of July holiday - July 4-5
The university system will observe two days of holiday for Independence Day, July
                           4 and 5, 2022. Numerous events and celebrations will be held around the state. Check
                           your local communities for listings of activities.

System Office Staff Council Meeting - July TBD
The next SOSC meeting will be  scheduled for mid-July, pending confirmation of new
                           meeting times for 2022-2023.
Denim Drive - all month
Donae your used jeans! Jacqueline Muehlbauer in Human Resources is collecting denim to create shoes for children
                                 in Africa to help protect them from disease. Please bring denim (non-stretchy) to
                                 her desk in Butrovich 212. $5 donations would be appreciated to help pay for the materials
                                 to make shoes. Learn more about the project at
