New effort certification in ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°åOnline starting in August 2026

The new effort reporting process will take effect for the summer semester reporting period, which begins in August 2026. Here is a sneak peek at what will be changing.  More information will be shared in the coming weeks. 

Why the Change? 

The current process is mostly manual and requires extensive administrative oversight. The upgraded ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°åOnline tools offer distribution and tracking within ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°åOnline, making the process easier and more efficient. Since effort certifications are a federal requirement, it is imperative that ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°å remains compliant.

What Is Changing? 

• All employees (hourly and salaried) who are paid on restricted funds will use the same effort certification process
• Effort certification reports will be delivered through ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°åOnline
• Employees will be able to review, make changes, and certify more easily using mobile devices
• PIs will be able to view effort certifications through ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°åOnline
• Grant unit contacts will receive notification if an effort reporting change requires a labor redistribution 
• Fiscal managers will have access to a live report for querying statuses and printing certifications

What Remains the Same?

• Effort certifications will continue to be on a semester basis
• Employees are responsible for making sure reports are certified by the deadline
• Departments are accountable for ensuring certifications are completed
