On June 28, Angela Lunda, Ph.D., became permanent dean of the School of Education at the University of Alaska Southeast. Angie has nearly four decades of classroom and administrative experience in secondary and post-secondary education. She joined the ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°åS faculty in 2014 and quickly distinguished herself as a teacher-scholar, leading two NSF grants that examined children's environmental and cultural identities. Under her leadership as interim dean, the school advanced the newly approved Master of Arts in Teaching in Indigenous Languages to address the critical need for certified Indigenous language educators.

Koogak’aax (Angela Lunda) is a life-long Alaskan of the Tlingít tribe, Ch’aak (Eagle) moiety, Kaagwaantaan (Wolf) clan, and the Sitka Déix X’awool’ja Hít (Two-Door House) with more than three decades as a teacher and administrator. She is passionate about ensuring that all students receive an equitable, quality education in a culturally safe and nurturing environment. In her new role as dean, Angie is excited to continue to find innovative ways to support new teachers and administrators in their development as culturally responsive educators.

Angie holds a Ph.D. in Indigenous Studies from ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°åF, a Master of Educational Leadership and superintendent’s graduate certificate from ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°åA, a graduate certificate in secondary education from ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°åS, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Washington.
